This really does sound like a cut and dry DNS issue, like jeremy said. Try and go to http://216.32.74.55 in your favorite web browser. That's the IP of http://www.yahoo.com. If you can load the page then ya really need to screw around with /etc/resolve.conf and fix your DNS problems. Also, out of curiosity, which hardware modem did you buy?
Originally posted by jeremy If you type in an IP address does it work? If it does then you do not have DNS configured correctly. If it doesn't then let us know.
No luck typing a an IP address in. Tried geocities, and several others, get same message. Let me know if you can
assist.

To be honest, I found a generic modem in my junk box.
I get 28800 out of it, and for now till I get it working
that suits me fine.
Tried typing the URL's in and no luck there either, I get the same message. Thanks for the reply.
I returned the modem as new and have a robotics 56k fax modem. lower bps on Windows NT BUT.... it is recognised by SuSE 7.1 Kernel 2.4 . Thanks again
