Angry how to check did linux recognize the modem or is modem vorking or not


I have external modem it is Zoltrix Raptor. Last time i used it, it worked all right with Windows but since then i installed Linux Red Hat 9 and dont have Windows system eny more. No mether what i do, or what kind of setings i do my modem dosnt give eny sings of life. So right now i dont know did linux recognize modem or my modem is not working right. HOW i can chech taht because i amd just about to trow my wholle computer in trash not just modem.
Can someone pleace help me find the solution it is mether of life and death!

Test it using something like kppp or minicomm. Try out various serial devices (/dev/ttys1-4 , assuming it's a serial modem). In kppp, click 'Setup', click the 'modem' tab, and click 'Query Modem' to test it. If it says 'Modem not responding', it's the wrong device. If it says 'Modem is busy', there is something wrong. If it gives you a list of responses the modem gave to various commands, you have the right device.

Thanks a lot but i tried all that actually before and i find right device kppp. and when i do query modem it says that everithing is ok and it brings back the response but the lines, those that show modem respons they are all empty. And when i tried to dial it says initializing modem but it dont do much after that. It just stays that way for a long long while and modem dont make a sound. What that coud be?
