Unhappy kernel: traps: soffice.bin[22106] trap invalid opcode in DynamicKernel.so

Hi,

I am unable to open libreoffice and find the following message in the system logs.

Dec 6 12:42:52 lemongrass kernel: traps: soffice.bin[22106] trap invalid opcode ip:7f05fdcc07dc sp:7f05fdcbeaa0 error:0 in DynamicKernel.so[7f05fdcc0000+1000]
Dec 6 12:42:52 lemongrass kernel: traps: soffice.bin[22108] trap invalid opcode ip:7f05fdcc07dc sp:7f05fccbcaa0 error:0 in DynamicKernel.so[7f05fdcc0000+1000]

Libreoffice versions producing the errors:

libreoffice-core-5.1.6.2-5.fc24.x86_64
LibreOffice_5.2.3.3_Linux_x86-64

System which produces the errors:

Dell Precision Tower 3620
Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1240 v5 @ 3.50GHz

Fedora 24:
Linux lemongrass..... 4.8.10-200.fc24.x86_64 #1 SMP Mon Nov 21 17:55:46 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I have several other workstations with different cpus that do not have this problem with the same os, kernel, and fedora 24 libreoffice. I haven;t discovered any other applications with this issue on any system.

Any hints or solutions would be great.
Thanks,
Kevin

I would notify the LibreOffice team of this problem. There is likely to be a compiler-architecture switch that they are using in their builds that, perhaps, they ought not be using. (They can decide if your "one CPU" is an edge-case for their project.)

Unless you care to recompile their system from source ... and you probably don't(!) ... it's probably best to let them do it.

Although the kernel is the one that, of necessity, initially caught the CPU exception, this is properly not a "kernel subforum" issue, IMHO.
