Please note that there is a Fedora specific forum here at linuxquestions.org.

I don't understand you. FC1 includes iptables 1.2.9. Your command tries to remove the installed package. What do you try to achieve?

The only userspace header files available are in the iptables-devel package, which you may need to install with e.g. "yum install iptables-devel". Everything else regarding netfilter/iptables is in the kernel package.

I am extremely sorry for the inconvenience i caused. Actually i wanted to ask how ti uninstall the tables . By mistake i typed install. Anyways thanks a bunch for your help.

1]Actually i want all the header files put into the usr/ include folder. But somehow i am not able to do so. It requires uninstalling the previous version. But when i try doing it, the kernel says that i cant be uninstalled as their are some other modules dependant on it. Pls help me with this.

2] Also tell me if possible whether if we want to install an older version of iptables i.e 1.2.6a on a Fedora Core 1 systems, is it possible?

3]And whether a code written to work with iptables 1.2.6a in mind on RHLinux 8 might have any probelms on FCore 1?

1) I'm afraid I still don't understand you. What headers? Why do you want to uninstall iptables or the kernel?

2) rpm's --oldpackage option can downgrade packages during installation. Additionally, provided that you know what you are doing, you are free to ignore dependencies and remove RPM packages and replace them with files installed from source code compiled yourself.

3) I believe the API may be compatible. But this question is better posted on the netfilter specific mailing list. http://lists.netfilter.org/
