telinit 3 causes system hang in RHEL4


Dear All

I encountered a problem
I am using RHEL4 .

I want to enter text only mode

After issuing command "telinit 3"
My system will hang
at step of

Starting anacron [ok]

Anyone experienced same problem?
How to enter text mode for RHEL4?

Hmm, that's a bit odd. Hasn't happened to me. You could just set your default runlevel to be 3 instead of 5. Edit /etc/inittab and change id:5 to id:3. Reboot the machine and see if you can enter runlevel 3 with no problems.

Are you sure?????? What happens if you simply press the 'Enter' key?
