Question RHEL-ES-V3 update

Hi all,

I have installed RHEL ES version 3 and kernel version is 2.4.21-4 and now i want to update the kernel and OS components. Due to availability of internet connection to this system i can not use up2date service. (System is connected to a isolated network). But i have downloaded the update 6 and burned as a CD.

Is it require to install all previous update (1,2,3,4 &5) before upgrading to U6.
Can any guide me to install these update from CD?

Thanks in advance.

Jegan

you'll just have a bunch of rpm's. all going well you should be able to just install all of them in one shot and forget about it. there is no requirement all previous ones at all, but if an rpm in the latest batch of updates requires a newer version of an rpm which was in an update you've not got then it'll fail until you get that too.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your response but the iso image for update 6 i have downloaded from Redhat Network has very less number of RPMs available. Mostly for java apps.
for OS component which i had installed earlier in my system, the corresponding updates i am not able to locate in update CD.
Do i require to download all rpm's again from rhn site and run the command to update. (rpm -Fvh *.rpm) or is it okay if i am doing it from the available rpm under update cd.
Please guide me. I am newbie to redhat linux platform.

Thanks.
Jegan
