Unhappy redhat9.0 can support p4 hyper threading cpu?

I enable HT in BIOS. Then install redhat9.0 successfully. But after finishing installation, restart the system, and you will found there are 2 redhat system to let you choose to enter.

Can everyone tell me the root cause?? Thanks in advance!

What choices to you have in the boot menu?

If one has the acronym "SMP" in the title, then that means the operating system installed an SMP kernel in addition to a uniprocessor kernel. This is why you are seeing two choices in the bootloader menu.

If your system has a hyperthreaded CPU, then the operating system will see the single CPU as 2 CPU's...thus the installer will automatically install an smp kernel.

The single CPU kernel is also installed because this will give you something to "fall back" on if you have problems with the SMP kernel.

Hope that helps!

Thanks khb33 and RHLinuxGUY.

I understand why entering a smp kernle fail and entering a single processor kernel pass.

Can you provide more information about it. I want to know about that.

Thanks in advance.
