Redhat 9: Kernel Panic Attempting to kill init
Hi All,
I am a newbie so excuse the ignorance. I have just installed Redhat 9 Server from a cdrom that came with a book but I get the following error on first boot
Kernel Panic: Attempting to kill init.
The hardware details: A MSI K7 Mainboard KM4M-V AMD Sempron 2200 chipset. 256 DDR which I have swapped for a 512 DDR after I encountered the above problem. The HDD is 80gig which I manually partitioned on the 1st install. I then run install again but I went for the auto partition but same problem. The HDD and CDrom are on seperate IDE cables as master on IDE0 and IDE1 respectively. I have run memtest86 on both rams and they checked out okay. I have been able to run WindowsXP on the box with no problems. The box has at the moment only got Linux on it.
I have also tried to create a new initrd file via the use of the rescue cd by using the chroot /mnt/sysimage and the mkinitrd command and still no joy.
I am using Grub as my bootloader.
Please can anyone help a newbie out with concise instructions on what to try and if you require anymore information please ask.
This box will be used asa webserver.
Thanks in advance.
