Red Hat 9 Up2date problems...

I would like to know why Up2date thinks that I have the latest version of the kernel and software packages installed on my computer. Currently I have the 2.4.2 kernel installed on here and it thinks it's the latest version. Same goes with Gnome and any other package.

Because buddy.. Red Hat 9 is End of Life.. meaning you get no updates from RHN... sorry.. Either upgrade to Fedora 2 or go with something like SuSE 9.1.. which, by the way, I HIGHLY recommend... It's terrific with everything from hardware detection to ease of configuration and use...

You can download the 9.1 personal ISO from www.suse.com/us or you also install the Professional edition (which most people don't need) via FTP using a bootable ISO disc.

Go with SuSE, you won't be sorry...

I've tried Fedora. The reason why I am using Red Hat 9 is because wireless network adapters do not work in Fedora 2 and up2date won't upgrade due to locking up.

Umm... Fedora 2 was the first distro to work right out of the box with my Linksys wireless card (WPC11 ver. 3)

Since then SuSE 9.1 also fully recognized and configured my card. I also had it working great under Debian, but I had to follow the tutorial on osunix.com

I liked redhat 9, but it seemed slower than Fedora on my laptop... Anyways... If your looking for "Red Hat" install... Go pick up the RH Professional Workstation.. It's RHEL WS 3 without the phone tech support... THough you still get a full year of updates and installation tech support... I got mine at Best Buy for $100

Good Luck...
