Red Hat 9 and XMMS

Red Hat 9 says that due to licensing problems, XMMS is not installed with MP3/MPG support by default... what is the best way to deal with this... just go to the XMMS site and get the latest RPM's ... ?

or could i use RPM's from Mandrake ?

i downloaded the patch like you said, seems to have worked pefectly...

only trouble now is that i can't hear anything.... i had this problem first when i installed RH9, after i applied the patches however it started working... at the moment it's not working... someone suggested a different method ALSA... any idea on what i have to do there....

hello

i am now using slackware 9.1

redhat 9 was my frist distro it the file really works with xmms
there may b other fault check carefully
after install it the (defaults)xmms really support any problem

if u r using gnome then select u r plugin to oss from xmms
and enable sound at start up from preferance in gnome

in kde select the arts sound in xmms then it may be ok

mind one thing nothing impossible in Linux

Hi,

I'm using RedHat 9 also, and had the same problem like the topicstarter.

What helped for me was installing the mpg123 package. Just search for it at rpmfind.net or another place. This installs the functionallity to play mp3 with programs like xmms, but also with other programs.

For the volume-control, i opened a terminal and used "aumix" to setup the volume of my card.
