Recommendations for creating local mirror for Red Hat yum repository
Hi there,
I'm a long time "user" of this forum but this is my first post.
We have a lot of servers (VMs) here running Red Hat that are on secure networks and have no access to the Red Hat yum repository which makes patching/updating quite a headache. I decided to look into ways of setting up a local yum server that will sync with Red Hat and that I can also get access to without going via an external firewall or proxy.
From doing some searches I've seen a couple of articles on setting up a local repo mirror using reposync. However I was wondering if this is the best method and if not what others might recommend.
I've seen some references to Red Hat Satellite but that seems to be a licensed product. Whilst our organisation can probably procure the license I suspect that it comes with a whole bunch of other add-ons that I'm not really interested in.
So ... other than the mirror method are there other options to look at?

Hi, I'm going to make the usual assumption when someone says they're running Red Hat. Have you got a maintenance agreement with them and if so, what do they recommend as updates are paid for I believe?
