can you boot from rescue disk?

Are you able to use the rescue disk to boot from to view your
mount points for:

/ (root)
/home
/swap

Once you are able to do that, view the log files under /var/log
of the root partition. Let me know what the /var/log/message
says, then we can go on from here.

Using LILO when I went to 2.4.22 I had the same problem - I had to explicitly state the device name of the partition in terms of root=/dev/......... rather than using Red Hat's label=/ etc .
