Kernel upgrade trouble
running redhat9, tried to upgrade the kernel to 2.4.22, and when i reboot it says that he was unable to mount root on / nor he does not recognize LABEL=/ as some kind of partition ... i'm going crazy upon this:mad:

can you boot from rescue disk?
Are you able to use the rescue disk to boot from to view your
mount points for: / (root) /home /swap Once you are able to do that, view the log files under /var/log of the root partition. Let me know what the /var/log/message says, then we can go on from here. Look here at the following thread for more information. Red Hat custom Kernel compilation mini-How-To for Red Hat 8-9 |
Using LILO when I went to 2.4.22 I had the same problem - I had to explicitly state the device name of the partition in terms of root=/dev/......... rather than using Red Hat's label=/ etc .

i have done it.... removed the line with root=LABEL=/. ... etc.. it boots fine ... thanx all :)) now i will harden its security ... i will try to apply some patches
