My OS is RH 9.0 and kernel is 2.4, and soundcard is 82801EB AC'97 Audio, Intel 8x0 which
Linux can't find. So few days before i install ALSA1.0.5, finished, it's seemed everything is OK,
but the soundcard still doesn't work. I don't know the reason and how to solve, is there someone
be so kind to help me
not sure if this will help as i'm just a begginer. My soundcard wouldnt work either (RH(, 2.4 kernel). i'm using an intel 865gbf motherboard with onboard soundcard 82801EB AC'97. i installed the ALSA lib, utils & driver files. then i downloaded and installed the driver from Intel, which hasn't been available for that long. i rebooted and all seems to work fine. just remember to run the
alsamixer
command and increase the defaults on master and pcm. i hope this was of some help

PS
i beleive you must have the source code installed for the kernel
again i must stress it's the blind leading the blind here so if someone else could come in on the thread maybe we could both learn. all i know is that i installed the stuff prev mentioned then rebooted, typed in
alsamixer
and then enter at the command line and i was presented with the alsamixer volume interface, tab along and ajust the master & PCM the ctrl-c to exit. i think if you go to the
start menu->Sound& video->Volume Control
from the desktop you get the same thing?????(by the way i use KDE). just a litle thing. sound didn't work instantly upon boot, but kicked in after 3 mins. i was testing it by running oppenoffice Writer program by clicking on the gallery icon, and opening sounds you can try various .wav files. i still can't get mp3's to work as i've not installed any software for it and i still cant get the cd player to work. all in good time though. the main thing is the wav files work, which means my soundcard is working good. i hope this is of some good.
