Question how do you shut down the X windows server in rh9


ok, i have a problem, i need to shut down x completly in rh9

if anyone knows how to start rh without x windows that works.

ps i selected graphical login type when i installed rh

Find the line in /etc/inittab that reads something like "id:5:initdefault:" and change the 5 to a 3 so it reads "id:3:initdefault:" .

This is, BTW, not RH specific.

That will tell your machine to boot up to command-line mode. After you startx from there you can exit it by tapping "CTRL+ALT+Backspace"

cool, kcender, "CTRL + ALT + Backspace" that seems to be more conveeneent for me :P

i discovered this by accident "CTRL + ALT + F4" goes to text but doesnt shutdown x.
"CTRL + ALT + F7" goes back.
