Getting failed dependencies error while installing R on RHEL 5.5

Hi,
I have a RHEL 5.5 emulator for windows I downloaded from IBM website.
I'm trying to install R, and I'm getting the following message:

[root@streamsqse ~]# yum install R
Loaded plugins: rhnplugin, security
This system is not registered with RHN.
RHN support will be disabled.

You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: package-cleanup --problems
package-cleanup --dupes
rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest
The program package-cleanup is found in the yum-utils package.

Before trying to install R, I installed the epel repository.
After getting the errors I was trying to add more repositories to yum but without success.Maybe those were incorrect ones.
I have very little experience with linux package installation.
This problem looks to me very basic as the missing libraries look to me pretty basic.

Thank you in advance for the help.

You are using RHEL and presumably have paid for support and so have access to the RHN. Register your system with the RHN; you need more than EPEL.

Or configure your DVD as a yum repo and so it can find the base packages.

Here is an in-depth explanation of what AlucardZero is talking about:

If you are not going to pay for support, you will need to use CentOS or Scientific Linux or some other distro instead.

also 5.5 is 5 minor versions and 4+ years out of date
the current in the OLD 5 series in 5.10
with RHEL 6.5 the current stable and
RHEL 7.0 the current in the NEW release

Talking

Thank you all very much for your answers.
As I was not so aware of different flavors of LINUX I assumed that I can get the missing packages from somewhere.
Then I realized that with RHEL I won't be able to do that unless I have their support.
And, as it was also proposed in one of the replies, I installed CentOS and everything worked fine.
With best regards,
Levon.
