I am using PCQuest Linux (nothing but RedHat distribution and I presume that it is RH 9.0) 2005. While accessing a learing site, there was a requirement for installing java plugins and flash plugins. I have installed the java plugins and there was no problem. After installing flash plugins, the browser is not coming up.
Can any one, help me to come out of this situation. I went to plugins folder and removed the link created as per the directions given while installing. Still, the problem persists.
If you launch the browser from a terminal, are there any error messages? Is there a browser still running in the background for some reason that needs to be killed?
Go to the firefox folder and look for the pluginreg.dat file. Delete it. Now try to open Firefox.
If that does not work try opening Firefox in Safemode:
On Linux, you can go to your Terminal and run:
/path/to/firefox/firefox -safe-mode
If that does not work then you need to create a new profile:
"On Linux or Mac, start Firefox with the the -profilemanager switch, e.g. ./firefox -profilemanager (this assumes that you're in the firefox directory)."
This works for me /usr/bin/firefox -profilemanager http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/profile#new
I had exactly the same problem with mozilla-firefox-1.0.3 on Mandriva LE 2005. I just discovered that I had a bad symlink to my Java plugin, it pointed to /usr/java/j2re1.4.2_08/plugin/i386/ns610/libjavaplugin_oji.so instead of /usr/java/j2re1.4.2_08/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so.
Check that out!
Does your symlink to the java plugins point to the good plugin ???
I got the same problem on Mandrake 10.1 and Mandriva LE 2005 after replacing Java 1.4.2 with 1.5 using the self extracting rpm. It affected both Firefox 1.04 and Netscape 7.2. Removing the symlink to the plugin at /usr/java/jre1.5.0_04/plugin/386/ns7-gcc29/libjavaplugin_oji.so
cured the problem. The previous version's plugin worked fine for me, so I'll probably reinstall it.

"INTERNAL ERROR on Browser End: Could not get the plugin manager" is the typical output of a faulty jva runtime environment... did you
correctly??? did you do it with normal unprivileged user??? its not a problem of newer or older java-jre... trust me... they all work well in all distributions!
