I have been using Puppy for a while. Versions 3.01 and 4.00 wireless works great, but newer versions I can connect to my network, but cannot read any web pages. I have tried 4.1.1, 4.1.2, and 4.2. The wizard connects me, but when I go to look at the web nothing happens. I am using a D-link DWL-G 122 Version B1. I'd love to use the newer software, but for obvious reasons, can't. Any ideas what is wrong here?
Are you telling us that you enter a url in the address bar, hit enter, and there is no change at all on the screen?
Something does happen, when I hit enter, I get a page load error.
Have you tried pinging an outside site?
Yes, without success.
I think you need to be more pedantic in your description:
What is this about encryption?
I didn't say anything about encryption in this post. I think you read my other post, which deals with another issue.
Can you get web pages in earlier versions of puppy?
Yes. This USB dongle works great with versions 3.01 and 4.0
It is mysterious to me, and I am somewhat of a newbie at this linux thing.
I just realized what you were talking about. The title! My apologies about the encryption thing. I just realized I actually misnamed this thread. I do have another wireless card I use with puppy that has this problem reading encrypted wireless. It is an Ashton Airdash WCRB1011. It connects to wireless networks fine unless they are encrypted. It does not seem to be able to handle WEP encryption.
1. you can connect to your network, but you cannot get online
2. using an Ashton Airdash WCRB1011, you cannot connect to WEP encrypted WAPs.
I need clarification on the first one - what exactly are you doing to access the internet? Have you tried pinging an outside url? If you do not answer questions, I cannot help you.
The second one is usually a question of enabling the function in the driver. It may just be that the driver does not support this. Without looking, this is likely. Presumably you can access a WEP encrypted LAN with other hardware?
1. I am first running the connection wizard to set up wlan0. Then, using Seamonkey browser. I enter a url, hit enter, and get an error message(See enclosed screenshot). See second screenshot for results of ping.
2. I can connect to WEP WAPs using a different Network adapter(D-Link DWLG-122).

OK - something is stopping you from getting online.
The network stuff is fine, the browser is working.
Do you have the browser set to browse offline?
Can you browse to your router admin screen?
Do you need to specify a DNS server?
Have you checked your firewall? The router firewall?
It was not possible to browse to the router from this computer.
I tried connecting with static ip address, specifying opendns nameservers that my network uses. This is not usually necessary. I can connect with the same hardware with ubuntu 9.04 without having to jump through this hoop. Evidently, DHCP enables the proper nameservers.
I tried to connect after disabling the router firewall(which was set to low security). I had not set a firewall on the computer.
The Puppy Network wizard says configuration of wlan0 was successful, but when I look at the router page from my Mac, it shows this computer as not connected.
What's next?

Please go through all the steps to connect to your lan with wireless as if you were instructing a newbie to do it. Make a note of what happens at each step - tell me everything.
Remember - it looks like you are not connected to your lan. Something must be stopping this, so this is where we investigate. If I just ask you if you tried xyz one at a time it will take forever, I need to know what you have done.
Other things I can think of:
Can you ping the admin page for the router?
What happens with iwconfig?
Can you connect to your router admin page with a wired connecion?
I am off to Ireland on business for a week, so won't be able to get to this till after the 22nd. Thanks for the help, and I'll continue this on the 23rd.
Regards,
Brian

I want to thank you for your help. The solution for this was simple: I purchased a new wireless adapter, a TP-Link TL-WN321G, and it works out of the box, plug and play.
