USB Auto Detect & Display

Hi Guys,

I just recently started to use the new Ubuntu.
I love it. and the best of it. It's free.

I want to write a program to which will display when a USB drive it is inserted and graphically which slot it is inserted into.
I am trying to use QT to do it. I notice that QT doesn't have HW support. I will have to use some kind of USB drivers with it.

Because this is the first time I use QT and program in linux.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

First of all, Qt should not have hardware support - hardware support is much lower in the hierarchy regardless of OS.

And Windows graphics layer doesn't have HW support too.

For starters I suggest to look up in man pages and/or on the WEB

usbview
lsusb
.

And then, looking into the source code of these application and reading more you'll be able to write your code.

By the way, under KDE inserted USB devices appear on the task bar - I am not a GNOME, so maybe GNOME users may give you some guidance how to configure GNOME to show the same.
