Sample "Hello World" Xwindows C++ program

I'm fairly comfortable with C, and have written some Xwindows applications using the QT development system. But the QT libraries aren't on all distros (right?), so these programs are not really portable. So, could someone point me to a link, or forum where i might get a few simple sample programs to get me started? Maybe something just a bit more involved than a "Hello World" gui application. And where would i find a handy list of the major library functions, etc?

I think Qt is include in fairly all distro's.

Anyways, for C there is a GTK tutorial, and for C++ there's also wxWidgets, which also has its tutorial.
