Question Programming nOObie, not linux though

OK. I admit, i am pathetic. I have been a linux user for 3 years now and still have not taken the time to learn how to write programs, or shell scripts. I can look at a shell script and pretty much figure out what its trying to do, but i am a dolt when it comes to knowing the concepts behind programming and wouldnt attempt to write anything because i dont even know the basics on where to start. I really want to learn C. Can anyone reccomend a good book for someone who has never touched programming in their entire life?

Deitel's C How to Program is a very good book in my opinion. You can use another book ... C Programming Language, by Kernighan and Ritchie.
