nonblocing I/O with Socket

Hi

I am trying to scan a network so I must create a socket for each possible host on the network! By using linear sockets (which is the default mode) it may take lots lots of time to finish the scan!

So, i decided to use nonblocking I/O by setting the socket options to O_NONBLOCK with setsockopt(). My probşem is that, i have never used nonblocking I/O before What are the man differences between linear I/O and nonblocikng I/O? On what points should take care while writing my code?

And, if you segguest me a good document or example code that halps me to understand the main concepts, i will glad to you....

Thanks in advice....
