Need to find an API for programming NetBEUI under Window

Hi -

I'm trying to get a Win32 .exe to communicate with a legacy DOS/Lantastic program over the network: with absolutely no luck.

LanTastic spoke an old protocol called "NetBIOS" (NetBEUI?); everything today all talks TCP/IP.

Microsoft VC++ claims to support NetBIOS with their "netapi32", but all I've been able to get it to do is talk NBT ("NetBIOS over TCP/IP", a hybrid protocol that the DOS PC does *not* understand!)

I'm willing to try any compiler and/or any library that might help. I've tried LanTastic (nee "Artisoft", now "Spartacom"); I've tried MSDN, I've tried Google.

Do any of *you* have any ideas?

Thanx in advance!

Hello,

have you installed BETBEUI on the win32 machine installed.
You can install it as a separate Prozocoll in networks.
Then try again.

Good luck

Thanx, Karpi. That was definitely a good suggestion, but unfortunately installing Microsoft's NetBEUI somehow breaks the ability to send/receive LanTastic datagrams.

I'm still investigating, but here are the results from running a DOS test (in a Win98 command prompt) with and without the NetBEUI protocol:
Code:
  With NetBEUI Without NetBEUI
Lana # TX? Error? Lana # TX? Error?
------ ---- ------ ------ ---- ------
0 NO NO 0 YES NO
     6 NO 24: NRC_SABORT 7 NO 24: NRC_SABORT
     7 NO 19: NRC_ILLNN 1,2,3,... NO 35: NRC_BRIDGE
1,2,3... NO 35: NRC_BRIDGE
Bottom line: I add NetBEUI, the DOS test stops working. I remove it, the test works again. Regardless of which LANA I use. And of course I can't get Win32 to work at all.

Sigh...

Any other suggestions????

Hi,

I'm at the end of the road.
Have you asked for support at www.spartacom.com (The new home for LANtastic)

Sorry
