Hi,
First some motivation. I've been using the
Android testing tool. People that I work with feel the scripts that this tool produces would be useful for product demos if one could stop and start them at will. I have managed to achieve this without Tcl threads (the Tcl package I'm using doesn't support threads from what I can find
here). I do it with the exec Tcl command and process signals instead. However, to this point I've only been able to send the signals with Tk buttons.
I'd like to be able to do it with the keyboard alone. However I have 1) been unable to figure out which device I should be listening to and 2) been unable to find any information that might point the way. A few people that I seen respond to similar posts have mentioned
the Linux Keyboard and Console How-To. Either I'm blind or this doesn't contain information at the level I need. Can anyone tell me how to listen directly to the keyboard, not through a terminal and preferrably not through some library? I have tried /dev/input/keyboard but when I try to "open" that device, perror returns "No Such Device". Also, does it make a difference if I'm trying this on a laptop or a desktop machine with a USB keyboard?
Thanks,
Jason Mazzotta
