Hi i was hoping that I chould get a little help from all the pro programmers to help me out with my stats class final project. I am doing a survey to see weather certified programmers make more then noncertified programmers. If you all chould help me out my taking my survey it would be awsome.

Main Site: http://nerdynick.com/modules.php?name=Math_Project
Survey: http://nerdynick.com/modules.php?na...oject&what=take

Thank you again.

What do you want to do about other countries?
I don't make US dollars, I make NZ dollars. If I use the exchange rate to convert my salary directly, it's probably inaccurate due to economic differences (my salary is far more than comfortable here, but in US terms I think it would be below average in my field).

Hum I would think that a guess on what you would think would be about what you make over here would do for this survey. It's just for school nothing really official.

Even different areas in the U.S. are going to have vastly different salaries due to cost of living differences. What I make here in Fargo, ND probably wouldn't even be enough to rent a small studio apartment in silicon valley...

I can tell you that the company I work for doesn't base salaries on certifications, though...

I make US dollars FROM NZ dollars. I'm a stockholder in NZ Telecom, which is NYSE listed, and they pay an excellent dividend!

There are only 0x2 types of people in the world; those who remember this joke is funnier in binary, and those who don't.
Then how come you told it in hex?

To the original poster: People don't like to discuss their salary, so you are unlikely to get reliable information. A statistical analysis of the the reliability of the data or people's willingness to talk would be better. Also, if you are a college student I suggest you learn to spell "whether".

Which they make by raping the population of NZ every chance they get! I'm glad they're doing someone some good though, I suppose

The price of a McDonalds hamburger has always
been a good indicator of your money's value ;)

Like in "I earn 1,000,000 hamburgers a year!"

Cheers,

In economics the technical term for this is PPP (Purchasing Power Parity) - it refers to measuring a currency's relative value by what you can buy with it rather than its exchange rate with respect to other currencies.

You picked a good index. The Economist magazine for years has maintained a PPP measure called the Big Mac Index

For years I've been investing in companies that ruthlessly exploit poor brown skinned people in developing nations. And then I had an insight. What's the point of robbing them? They don't have any money! It's more profitable to exploit people in rich white countries like New Zealand.

Ahh, but what goes around comes around. All the IT and sw engineering jobs in the US are being shipped to China and India. If I keeps up my skills and I'm lucky I might still be able to get a job in a few years as a short-order cook in Chinese restaurant in Boston.

Back (sort of) on topic - The Chinese government is strongly backing Linux as a hedge against Microsoft hegemony.

If that's so, I am woefully underpaid However, if I count chicken burgers on 'two for one' days, things start to look better.

You're exactly right! Another factor is the increasing pressure
that's coming since China's acceptance into the WTO, which was
way too premature! Eventually they'll have to actually pay for
Micro$loth software. Today they just pass around copies and
then crack it after installation. No XP Activation problems here.
You see, in China, copyright means "the right to copy." And the
Chinese won't play Bill Gate's stupid monopoly game like the
Americans and Brits...
