Ok, I work for a music store, and (among my many other duties) I take care of customer orders.
Half of it involves typing up emails to the various suppliers asking why orders are taking longer than expected to come in.
It involves a lot of repeated typing, like:
Code:
<Artist> - <Title>
Catalogue Number - <Number>
Order Date - <Date>
PO - <Purchase Order Number>
I could have as many as 20 different titles per supplier, and typing all of that is starting to kill my hands (not to mention that the counters are horribly set up for computer use, very bad ergronomics).
What I would like to do is to set up a program where it would allow me to select the supplier from a menu (I have to manually look up the suppliers email and type/copy-paste it in, the address book is unmodifiable, thanks to the IT policies), have text entry fields to I can enter the needed info, but not the stuff that's repeated. I could either click one button to add additional items or another button to close the current email, at which point the items I've entered will appear in an email as a list which I would double check before sending.
This will be done on my home systems, as I couldn't install anything on the work systems.
I'm just wondering where I should start. I would assume I would need to set up a mail server, which is fine, I have extra boxes.
Would you suggest it be a compiled program, a script (or 3), or a web page?
