data structure for (app, port) information.

Hi,

Could you please tell me whether there is any kernel data structure from which the (application, port used) can be found (probably used by lsof !!). and what is the data structure used for storing the traffic generated on a port (probably used by tcpdump !!).

I require this to write a small application which analyses the traffic at an application level.

Thanks for any help..
