structure of the superblock and information regarding manipulation

I would like to know about the raw format of the superblock and would like to know which portion of it will hold the information such as used space of a partition, empty space etc..
Can I edit the superblock in order to make a partition look like a newly formated without explicitly using the disk format commands.

Thanks in advance,

Here's a basic overview of the layout of the superblock.

What you want to do is risky. If you want to use a disk editor to edit a superblock (I think you'll have to change ALL copies of the superblock), make SURE you don't have any critical DATA ANYWHERE on that disk. Personally I'd just use fdisk and delete the partition in question.
