TV Capture Card

I just purchased a video capture card on line and am having a difficult time getting it to work. It is a Phillips 7134 TV Tuner Capture PCI Card. The cd has software on it, but it doesn't appear to work. I uses the Phillips 7130 chip. I am a newbie and am having problems getting it to work. I am using it on a Dell 2400 with 2.4 cpu, with 512m of memory and a 120 harddrive sharing with windows xp. I know I need to incorporate some linux software, and I guess mepis has some I just have to search it out. Any help will be appriciated... Thanks..

firstly, nothing on the cd will ever be of use, it's not meant to me.

so, the card you have uses the saa7134 driver, so take care of that first. start my trying "modprobe saa7134" and check the dmesg output to see if it picked up the hardware. after that you would make it load the module on boot, normaly by adding the relevant entry to /etc/modules.conf, but i've no idea if mepis uses this, so can't say for sure.

with that driver loaded, you are away really, use whatever v4l2 compatible program you wish, xawtv, mplayer, xine... basically you'll end up with a device, probably /dev/video0 which relates to the card, and any of these programs will try to access that device file and use it.
