Hi, I'm trying to install a Virtual PC (using Microsoft Virtual PC)... the version of Mandriva (Mandrake) Linux is 10.1. When I come to the "Summary" part of installation, it returns that the interface is not configured. The only visual interface I installed was GNOME. I configure it using the default settings it has, and tested it. The screen becomes stretched and the colors weirdly distorted... I've played around with various settings with no luck. My video card specs are:
64MB NVIDIA GeForce2 MX with TV Out
What Graphics Cards should I choose? I tried both NVIDIA Geforce2 (Integrated and DDR) cards, and both returned:
Quote:
(EE)Failed to load module "/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libglx.a" (once-only module, 135962511)
(EE) No devices detected.
Try to change some parameters
Could the fact that I haven't installed Virtual Machine Add-Ons be a problem? Do I need to switch to VMWare?
regardless of wether you *need* to switch to VMware, i'd very strongly suggest that you do. you can get the vmware player for free and with the slightest sidestep you can install mandriva on it in a sec (quickest way is probably to download the Browser Appliance from vmware and install over the top.)
Anyway. the virtual machine has nothign to do with your physical graphics card. a few seconds on google suggests vpc emulates a S3 Trio 64 PCI with 4 MByte Video RAM. but vmware uses it's own more suitable "vmware" graphics card, which Xorg can detect just fine.
I deicided to try that card, and, like I said, the problem arose. So now I'm stuck with that change I guess....
I'm trying to install the NVIDIA card.... not going well. The Linux Driver for the card (its installer, actually) doesn't like the file system or kernal-system and refuses to install...
Any more ideas?
PS - Doesn't VMWare Player also support VirtualPC config files? If it does, if someone told me how, I could switch to that and configure it to use its card...
why are you trying to install the nvidia drivers??? the virtual PC does not contain an nvidia card does it? it's an sis.
as for config files, i assume not. can't see why something as good as vmware would need to lower itself to junk like Virtual PC. a vmware config file is like 10 lines, and a default one is just fine for most applications.
