What the hell just happened?
Ok, so i just installed mandrake 10.1 offical on my Dell Inspiron 8500 Laptop.
When I first booted, i could only get into text mode. So I ran xorgconfig, went through a couple of different settings, to no avail.
I then tried running XFdrake. I changed the settings on my monitor, graphics card, and all that, filling in the vertical syncs and such. However, when I went to test, it didn't test properly. So i downloaded the graphics drivers from NVidea. I was trying to mount my cdrom drive, and decided to reboot when it wasn't working properly.
*BOOM*
All the sudden, it boots in to KDE GUI. I don't know why. I hadn't installed the drivers from Nvdiea yet, and it seems to be running at it's proper resolution: 1920X1200. But the test in XFdrake wasn't working.
I'm going to try to figure out how to install the drivers, hopefully that won't screw anything up.
wish me luck
