Weird Gnome problem in 2006

Hi all,
I generally use KDE,and recently I went into Gnome to try something..
When Gnome appeared an error message said that Gnome failed to activate"OAFIID:GNOME_settingsDaemon"..
That left me with a background display and no menu's at all to log out with..I can however get to a terminal by rtclicking the display.
I tried to reboot with su shutdown -r now and it reboots but goes right back to Gnome GDM..
I guess my question is how can I get back to KDE from the terminal?
Are there any commands to allow me to log out of one GUI and login to another?ieGnome to Kde)?
My books do not cover this anywhere..
Thank you for any tips or help,
jolphil

Finally Got it !!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,
If anyone else has a similar problem (such as when starting Gnome ending up with no menus or themes and unable to log out)Rebooting just brings you back to the same gnome screen with the "OAFIID:GNOME_settingsDaemon failing to start)
My solution was to read anything I could but one thread suggested starting from a terminal as root and running "rpmdrake"
From there I reinstalled Gnome and the gnome GDM again..
I rebooted and the gnome menues came back..I logged out and went back to Kde..There i will stay.. thank you for your help
Jolphil
