STill a couple kinks left with my new OS. I am running Mandrake 10.1(KDE) and it is awesome with the exception of a few problems.

1. Every time i put a disc in my drive everything basically freezes up, i cant open anything it just times out. Same goes for hooking up my mp3 player with USB ( ihave put this in a different thread)

2. For some reason i keep getting the messege that i have an incorrect password when i try signing in to Kopete with my hotmail address, i have typed it a dozen times with/without caps and still nothing.

3. just a question, For the most part are my video and audio files going to be compatible with linux, on my other computer i have a load of mp3s, and quite a few video files... not really a big deal i guess.. just an inconvenience right now if they arent comp.

your mp3's should be compatible with linux. what format are the videos in? they should be compatible.

for first problem: do you have hotplugging enabled?

second problem: what keyboard settings (us, international, french, whatever) do you have set- some characters will be different. find a computer that signing in works on and find out what key mapping it uses. Then makesure your keyboard is mapped the same way.

I havnt had a chance to import any media to this computer because both USB and disc drive aren't cooperating so i have faith that everything will work fine in that respect.... just checkin

Hmm... well i don't really know if i have hot plugging enabled. I havn't really messed with anything, i looked in Preferences to see if i could find hotplugging but didn't see anything. As far as i know it could be off. The keyboard issue, well i can sign in to check my mail on the website with this keyboard. Where would i adjust the keyboard settings, I looked in Settings for this too, but keyoard options were limited to things like CapsLock, delay before repeated letters, key sound volume, etc.... So i am assuming i am going to use Terminal to adjust these things.

I don't understand what you mean when you say everything freezes up when you insert your CD into your CDRom drive. Do you mean the entire desktop locks-up?

As to your kopete issue of the wrong password, you are going to have to uninstall kopete and reinstall the updated version of kopete.

What processor are you using and how much Ram do you have?

I have never had an issue of Mandrake-Mandriva having any problems detecting the CD-rom drive.

You should be able to play mp3's with no problems. As for movies, you're going to have to install the special drivers that you need to play them.
