root user doesnt have permission

Hi

Im doing up my little brothers computer so iv put mandrake 10 on as well as his xp. i wanna share some ntfs partitions between the operating systems. iv mounted them and along with the disk xp is installed on they are in /mnt/

as the user i can access and read from the partition xp is installed on only i can see the other two partitions i wanted. but the user has no permissions for these two partitions so i cant see anything in them. as root i can read from these disks fine but for some reason root doesnt have the privilages (isnt allowed to) to change the partitions privilages.

i thought as root i should be able to control everything? do i have to allow root certain privilages somehow?

cheers.
Ben.

Not NTFS filesystems... That would be too easy ... I figure that was asked by M$ at sine point :-)

I know the phenomenon: it helps to give everyone permissions to the directory you mount your partition on (when it's not mounted). Also add a line to /etc/fstab. fstab is easy to understand and has a manpage (man fstab). Add a line for your partition and add the option 'users'.

That should help...

Succes!
