Unhappy Problems installing kdm with fresh install of Mandriva 2007.0 Free

Ok, I've been having a similar problem to a few people on this board with not having a "shutdown" or "reboot" option in KDE when i go to log out. I can still use halt and reboot from a terminal, but I would like to be able to use the gui as well. So I searched around on this forum and discovered that this problem may be linked to what display manager runs at boot up, and that this functionality should return if i use kdm. When I tried to change this, it only allows me to use xdm at boot, so based on advice from this forum, I searched for "kdm" in the package manager and the only result that came back was the mandriva configuration file for it which was already installed. Then I searched for "kdebase" and all the resulting packages were already installed.

This thread resolved this problem by using "urpmi kdebase-kdm" but when I enter that, it returns "no package named kdebase-kdm". I can't access the internet from my linux box without juggling modems around, so my only source right now is the installer DVD. Besides that, I can manually download the packages on my Windose box and transfer them over. Thanks for any help you can give.

Open "Configure your Computer" and under "system" is an icon that looks like a traffic light you should be able to switch to kdm there.
In the KDE "Control Center" under "System Administration" is an icon for "Login Manager". Here you have a tab for shutdown options in kdm. I installed from a DVD I got in "Linux Format" magazine and it installed kdm and gdm along with xdm, so I'm thinking you already have kdm and your not going to the right place to switch.

The only option i have under the traffic light icon is xdm. That's what makes me believe that kdm is not actually installed.

As for the login manager, on the shutdown tab, I have shutdown access enabled for everyone local and no one for remote.

That did it. Thanks. I have the 64-bit version, so I had to tweak your url a little bit, but that's my fault for not mentioning that. Turned out kdm wasn't installed, but that rpm did the trick. Now if only I could get those ATI drivers working properly... Anyway, thanks again and Merry Christmas!
