greeting linux-friends:
i recently signed up for sbc dsl service (cause its cheap
), and i seem to have serious trouble setting up w/ my linux box.
heres what i have:
p3, 600, 128 ram, 18g hd, mandrake 9.0 w/ kde3.
username, password, dns # from sbc
here's what i've done so far:
i tried
1) download rp.pppoe.3.4.1.rpm and use the adsl-setup, but after i run the rpm, it won't let me setup anything....
2) config /etc/ppp/pppoe, config, etc by putting my user name, but it nothing happens
3) i went network, wizard, and have hardarke handle setup w/ me through GUI, after i choose adsl, pppoe, put in everything, it said no connection, and i went to that little connection box and click connect, nothing happens....
3.5) when i shut down the computer, the script: shutting down adsl [fail], no connection detected
my question is, what is a good way to start troubleshoot in situation like that? like, first of all, maybe i should make sure my ethercard is working by doing ifconfig...etc?
did anyone get that sbc yahoo dsl work? if so, would u please walk me through in detail what u've did, and what sys u got and what modem did sbc send to you etc?
thank you for your time and your help on this matter
