It might be possible to run MSN Messenger via Wine, but I'd say your best option is to use something like Gaim or Kopete, both of which can be used with MSN and many other IM services.

Theoretically, yes. MSN messenger can probably run with WINE, which allows users to run windows applications on linux. However, I have not personally tested it, so it might be worthwile checking out the application database at the wine hq website, which is a list of software known to (and not to) work on wine. The appdb entry is here.

This may not work however, so there are some native alternatives available too.

GAIM works with several protocols, including MSN, yahoo and ICQ. So does aMSN, which also supports popular msn features, like the annoying nudge and the like.

These are just a few. A google search will probably turn up many more.

Cool Use gaim

I would very strongly recommend that you install gaim (from the Mandriva Control Centre, Install new software). This can handle many different Internet messenger protocols seamlessly. I use it with Yahoo Messenger and MSN Messenger. It works a dream and has many useful plugins available that are also worth installing. It does not yet handle the yahoo "audibles" on the mandriva release, but all the usual emoticons and file sharing facilities of both are absolutely fine.
