Unhappy Mouse Problem

I was trying to use a new mouse given to me as a gift. It is a Microsoft USB Intellimouse. At the moment I also use a Microsoft PS2/USB Intellimouse in the PS2 port on my Mandrake system and it works fine. For some reason it did not like the new mouse at all.

Plugging it in to the PS2 port gave no reaction. When I tried it in the USB port it lit up when the computer was booting but then did not work when it had finished booting. I unplugged it from the USB port and put it back in and then it worked. But it was very slow and so I tried in the Mandrake control settings to adjust the speed and control of the cursor.

After fiddling with the settings I ended up only being able to move the cursor with the numeric keypad on my keyboard and not at all with the mouse and so I decided to give up and just go back to using my original Microsoft mouse. The situation now is that the cursor will not move at all with my original mouse or the numeric keypad. It just sits in the top left corner of the screen.

I managed to open a Konsole window and now am wondering what I can do. Can I reset the mouse settings from the konsole? If so how?

Man I wish I had just not tried to play with those settings now!!

Try running Mousedrake to reconfigure your mouse.

The USB mouse and the PS/2 mouse typically have different polling rates, which will make one either seem too fast, or too slow.

Set one up the way you want, save the /etc/X11/XFConfig file then set up the other and do the same.

Then as indicated in other threads add the settings for BOTH mice to a new copy of the config file as indicated.

You will be able to have both active at the same time, while using different polling speeds for both, making their behavior similiar.
