manually setting up my client box (linux)


i have an xp box with two nics in it one to the cable modem and the other to my linux box via crossover cable. my linux is mandrake 9.2 i am trying to manually configure my network i go to the config menu and then to netwroking and then to the wizard but from there i am lost i dont really know what i am supposed to do. my nic is recognized by linux. but i dont have a clue as to what i am doing. i am only 15 years old and very new to this i am ok at windows but i thought i would learn something new. if anyone can help me i would be very sppreciative. please help
