more than 4 hours defulte installation. (with fast connection DSL)
that if you were lucky and not peek time.
lose CD for booting only!!!
lost my suse 10 & MBR (resone: after all that time waiting at the end error acourred)
saying...
Error
An error acourred
ldconfig failed
so everything was worhtless as mandriva it self.
back to my SuSE...
I have done lots of ftp installs of Mandrake/Mandriva as well as Suse and never had any problems. Yes it does take time if you select a lot of packages but the rest of the other problems you state seem to be your own doing. If you have not deleted your Suse partitions, you can boot into Suse 10 using your installation disk and then reinstall grub.
im trying to install a new distro.. how to keep the old one there!!
yes it must be ontop of the old one.
beside its not my mistake to acourr an error its the linker ldconfig which been downloaded from the site.
yes mandriva has the best ftp download. since its detect everything including network card.
not like suse which is not frindly at all. (putting everything manually and IP's of sites)
i had Mandrake Powerpack and i was happy with it. but hoped to go back to it. without that missy error.
and i feel suse 9.3 was more stable than 10.0

SuSE has got a best Hardware Detection. (At least what they claim.)
Mandriva is a great thing. It is more of a Newbie distro, but with the same power of SuSE.
I don't know what the latter part of the quote means!

I am not sure its accurate to say Mandriva is a newbie distro since it caters for both newbies and power users. I would say Suse is in the same league, but seems to be improving a lot more than Mandriva (comparing the last 2 releases).

both Mandriva and SuSE are awesome distro.
From the info that you have posted, I am not sure you can install a new distro and retain the older one unless you destroy one of your non linux partitions and install the new distro there.

Hmm. That is true.
But I am quite satisfied with Mandriva LE 2005.
SuSE 9.3 was quite a slow distro, with all that bleeding edge thing.
