MandrakeUpdate freezes when downloading updates.

Hello,

I have a problem where my entire computer freezes when I try to download packages via the MandrakeUpdate program.

I have tried several reinstalls of Mandrakelinux 10.1 but everything gets me the same result.

Does anyone have any idea what I could do to make it stop? Or know a manual update place?

I'm running Mandrakelinux 10.1 on a laptop and I'm a recently escapee from Windows :P

Regards,
Madstq

I would try killing the gui (CTL-ALT-F1)
log in as root
do the upgrades by entering
urpmi --autoselect -auto
You might have a conflict with something that is running.
To get your gui back do CTL-ALT-F7

urpmi merely uses a script that in turn uses FTP to download the files.

Check to make sure that FTP is working for you by connecting to an ftp site in Konqueror and also with a client... such as gftp.

Make sure that you have no problems downloading files....

I suspect you will find that this is problematic.

You may be blocking the ftp data port with a local or hardware firewall, or because you turned up Mandrake's security...

Well I got Mandrake updated by downloading every single download manually and changing the update mirror to a local folder.

But I still have the problem, every time I download files (primarily through FTP) my machine has a slight chance of freezing everytime.

The network adapter I have in my laptop is an Intel Corp.|EtherExpress PRO/100

Should I try to find new a new driver?
