Mandrake upgrade

Hi. I've got Mandrake 9 (not yet installed) - is there an upgrade/patch to upgrade it to 10, or will I need to get the full version of 10?

Thanks.

Hi,

There is no Mandrake 10 - the latest version is 9.2. Check again and come back

Well, anyway, you can upgrade Mandrake from one version to another, although I would recommend a fresh install, since I never got it working with an upgrade. But that's my experience

Ok, replace "10" in my original post with "9.2"

Just pop in the cd and choose upgrade. I've done it a few times without any problems (even used it to fix 9.1 when I hosed it while trying to update the kernal).

Hm, well, but if you haven't installed Mandrake yet, why would you install it and then upgrade it? You would need the cd's of the next version anyway.

Well I have the 9 cd's, but not the 9.2. The obvious reason why I ask if I can upgrade it, is most likely the upgrade patch will just involve a smallish download, therefore doing away with the need for getting the 9.2 disks

Yeah, ok. I'm pretty sure that it's not that easy, although it would be very nice if it was But, you aren't thinking of patching the whole of Mandrake??? That would be an enormous amount of work! Mandrake is not like Debian, where you'll always have an perfectly updated system just by doing some apt-getting.

If you want to upgrade an app in Mandrake - i.e. if you want to upgrade an app in Mdk 9.1 by just downloading and installing the newer app version in Mdk 9.2 - then it will often not work since you'll end up in this infamous "dependency hell" amongst the rpms. Of course you could compile the app from source, but then I guess you'd have the same problem.

The kernel should be upgradeable, in a sense. See this. Hm, or rather this

BTW, I hope I didn't sound too grumpy in my previous posts
