That is because you are currently using the unaccelerated "generic" drivers.
You'll need to get your internet connection up and running, then grab the ATI driver RPM's (actually just add the whole site to URPMI) and URPMI the drivers.
THEN run XFdrake as I instructed, and adjust for the actual capabilities of your display, and finally make any needed changes to the /etc/XF86Config file...

And I can do this directly from the console after the login even if I can't see my desktop? Could you, if you have time, please give me a step-by-step guide as to how to download/install, or the exact topic which sais how to from the console step-by-step. I am a total noob when it comes to linux, seriously :P. I appreciate your help so far, thanks.

I also have another question. If I wanted, couldn't I just put in another spare video card temporarily to get Linux up and running, then insert my radeon back again and it should boot then I could get the drivers?

I was thinking, first, to just buy the official cd pack, which I assume comes with the correct drivers and will install on my radeon x700 during installation. Is this correct? Also, which is the appropriate one to choose. http://www.linuxcdshop.ca/cat--Mandrake--Mandrake.html
also, i dont really see how to add the resources in your sig, i need a browser, i cant directly do it, unless there is a way, then a link would be helpful
From here, I do not know what to do, or how to add the other resources in your signature. I need to add what your sig sais, then install, then load my desktop somehow to be able to download the ati drivers.
All I did so far was install urpmi xorg-x11, but that still hasn't made my desktop work, probly cause I need to add your sources link.
Please advise, and be proud, as I have made progress!!
