Problem with Intel Extreme Graphics 2 on mandrake 10.1 official

Ok I cannot figure this one out. I have a nice shiny HP compaq nx9040, with all intel's fancy Centrino hardware. So far everything is working nicely. except that i cannot get any 3D apps to run at a useable speed. At first glance i thought that OpenGL must have a problem.
I have installed intel's latest drivers for my card yet still no openGL!!
If anyone can help me with this please do. it's driving me nuts!!
I have not had this problem with my desktop running an Nvidia FX. Why did i have to get laptop with hardware made by microsofts bed buddys?!?!

BTW I have been useing linux since redhat 7.2, moved to mandrake at version 9.0 and used every one upto 10.1
