I have added the bluehawk_kde medium to rpmdrake and I am at the point where I can install the rpms for kde 3.2...but I want to know if it makes sense to first uninstall kde 3.1.x (and if I do, what should I uninstall?), or should I just try to update kde?? Also, has anyone used the rpm's from bluehawk to install kde 3.2?? I know that I will backup /.kde directories from both root and home so that if it does screw up, I can reinstall kde from my cd's and be back where I was...I'm going to use gnome while doing this....btw, anybody have difficulties with the nvidia drivers and kde 3.2 (I don't think one has to do with the other, but with Linux, things always surprise me)...thanks in advance...Chris
urpmi automatically upgrades the packages so you don't have to remove kde. I have used the mandrake dvelopment packages for kde 3.2 and they work fine. To uninstall with urpmi, you can do urpme or rpmdrake-remove
P.S what is bluehawk?
Just did a KDE 3.2 upgrade with Bluehawk's rpms and went smooth with no disasterous outcome. I did install the 3.2 rpms on a fresh install of 9.2 though. But, I didn't un-install any 3.1 packages and urpmi'd it from KDE as well. Only problem I have encountered is the arts server crapping out on me. Upgraded arts and libarts with Bluehawk's rpms but no joy. Oh, wells, no biggie...
*Edit*
I did a fresh install again (to get arts server working), but this time I enabled the alsa driver for my sound card before upgrading the kernel to 2.6. (I believe since I upgraded the kernel to 2.6 before enabling alsa is why I had problems with arts before.) Also, installed Bluehawk's arts and libarts rpms with all the 3.2 packages.
Now everything works with the exception of KDE's Control Center not showing any control modules in the index. But found the fix at another forum. You have to delete the ~/.kde/share/applnk-mdk folder and all the control modules will come back. But, doing so did revert all my custom menu icons back to default. So, no control center...besides, you can access the modules via your menu or konsole.
