KDE 3.3 and Mandrake 10.1

Does anyone know how to install KDE 3.3 in Mandrake 10.1?

What advantages would it have over KDE 3.2?

It's on CD4 and I tried to install it but for some reason, I can't get media manager to recognize CD4. (Actually media manager accepts it and I can see the KDE 3.3 in the install program list but when I try to actually install, it prompts me to insert CD4 and then fails to recognize it.)

You could use URPMI or download by hand and install via KDE . Not the answer you're looking for I'm guessing, but both are options.

I think we need to find a urpmi source which has KDE 3.3 packaged for MDK10 before that rite?

to avoid troubles, just copy the entire kde3.3 rpm contents to your hdd and add this as a local source.
then urpmi --auto-select --auto
that should do the trick, after all. thanks anyway for the infos about cd4
(this is after i tried to install kde 3.3 manually, took me 36 hours)

Installed the C++ compiler library. Did the make install from the konstruct folder. It did all the downloads and stuff. Now I'm getting this:

What gives?

I think I got around the Qt by installing an RPM package for 3.3.2 after adding remote sources.

I keep running the make install for KDE 3.3 and each time it goes farther and farther but will stop when something important isn't installed first. This is becoming a pain in the butt. But it's a learning experience.

Now since I'm installing this a root will this mess up my normal login when I go to use it? I notice that it keeps installing stuff under /root/kde 3.3

Talking Yeah I could use some help on this too

I am having doubts about trying this out on 10.1 CE then getting the official version of 10.1 up and running when it comes out, but if anyone could lend a helping hand to some nubs on getting KDE 3.3 installed on the CE it would be much appreciated. I like 3.2, but I keep reading a lot of favorable things about 3.3 and I am interested in trying it. The problems are: 1. I am new at knowing how to updating the old one without messing it up. 2. If I have to build a new one in parallel then switch over, what process would I have to follow, then how would I make sure which old files to get rid of to conserve space. 3. Did I mention how much of a noob I was at this?

Thanks

donīt even try

sorry, i resign and draw back all positive messages about mandrake > 9.1
i have 10.1 running now but i see no furtherness in keeping it
right now i look for alternatives to mandrake, because i always get
errors installing or using mandrake 10.1
installing kde3.3 is really hard.
i consider waiting toll 10.1 final rolls out

concerning a "rpm injection" or a "build on source" installation ??

Build on source. I basically did the konstruct method and did a make install from there.

Has anyone gotten KDE 3.3 to install under Mandrake 10.1?
