Linux Wont install on my new computer

I love linux and ive been using it on my old computer for a while. I got a new computer adn now there is problems. I put the 10.1 disk in on my computer. I got the 64 buit edition and a 64 bit CPU from AMD and I fill in all the stuff adn it goes to partitions.

I have a small windows partition and I want to set on up for linux. I went to teh coustom partition and I have my windows partiton and another large blank one. When I try to use that part I go click on it and set it as a linux natice and the other thing thats like / /boot /home I put that as / then It says formatting partiton then it restarts my computer then I ahve to do that over again and it repets what am I doing wrong? And How do I set it up?

It should not normally reboot your computer at this point, if I remember correctly.

Did you download the CDs from the web and burn them? If so, then this sort of error is typically caused by a badly burnt CD, so you might want to try burning them again (and/or verifying that the data burnt was not corrupted, if you can).

If you can't get it past this stage, then I suggest letting it partition the disk for you, using the free space. Alternatively, you can partition your disk using gnuparted (search for it on freshmeat.net; you can download a floppy disk image to boot off and start gnuparted).

You could also try the other boot modes on the disk; one likely option is needing to turn off DMA on your CD drive (because some drives don't support it properly).

You can get more information about what it's doing (trace and error messages) by using ctrl+alt+F1, ctrl+alt+f2 etc. Alt+F7 will get you back to the GUI installer (assuming that you're using the GUI).
