I havent been on Mandriva much, just Windows alot lol. But today I decided to go and do some bits and stuff on it, as soon as KDE loads my desktop and icons, etc. I get a "KDE Crash Handler" thing telling me KDED has crashed. Happens every like 5 seconds, i see the kat in the corner goes off and on due to this maybe crashing. I execute Kat, and then KDE's taskbar thingy dis-appears lol. Dunno how to stop it.
The signal sent to KDED or w/e is "SIGFPE Signal 8". Dont understand lol.
Im using Mandriva 2006. I have put a screenshot there.
Best remove Kat because it's resource hungry and buggy. You can either remove it by starting up Konsole, typing "su -" (no quotes) and then, when requested, your root pass. Then once you're root type, without quotes, "urpme kat". Once that's completed, type exit and close Konsole, then log out and back in again (no need to reboot). You can also use the method in this thread.
I can't understand why Kat, in its buggy and resource hungry state, is on by default. It's not a good welcome for newbies to the distro. Other than Kat, Mandriva is a great distro, so pity that Kat lessens the reputation.

Indeed that it lessens it's reputation, it used to crash from time to time which I didn't really like, same with Amarok as well lol. Ill log on Linux now and try it.
Cheers
Awsome, I had the same problem. Every now and then it would flip out. I would right click on KAT and quit, that would stop it untill the next time I rebooted. Thanks Savagebiscuits!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I was wondering what was causing that. I've been using a different WM for the past month trying to figure that one out.
Kat caused a lot of my problems with KDE apps. The apps would freeze or crash the machine. Once I turned Kat off I've had no problems with the KDE apps. BTW, have you ever taken a look at the memory resources Kat uses, it's tremendous !
