Hey guys, I just installed slackware on a new box. Everything went fine. I upgraded the kernel installed a few extra packages... then i decide to do an "init 4" to run x.org. It crashes of course because I forgot to configure my xorg.conf file.
I know how to edit my xorg.conf file and make it work... I just wanted to know if there was a way to get back to runlevel 3 without rebooting. I find it annoting that i had to reboot to fix the problem.
I know that if i do "startx" instead of "init 4" i can just type "ctrl + alt + backspace" to get back. But this is not the solution to my problem.

The telinit command allows you to change runlevels on the fly.

It looks like telinit does the same thing as init. I would try typing it in but i get a blank screen when i do an "init 4".
I was looking for some kind of interupt key command that would get me out of my blank screen and back to a prompt.

What happens when you try to change to tty6 with <Alt> <F6> (or <Ctl> <Alt> <F6>)? By default Slackware only runs/respawns tty6 when in run level 4 (configured in /etc/inittab). There should be a login screen on tty6 that'll let you access the system to change the run level back to 3.
