Is Gnome supported well in Mandrake? ( and gnucash question )
Hey, guyz, I just want to install another linux distro in my harddrive and probably I would choose Mandrake 10. So just couples questions:
1. Mandrake is KDE default desktop manager distro. But I am Gnome fans. Is Gnome in Mandrake creepy? Is Gnome supported well in Mandrake or it is "just there". Just as optional "softwares" while KDE is the primary focus. So what is your experience, Gnome and Mandrake users? Tell me, please!!!
2. What CD is gnucash stored? I mean I hate downloading all the CD's. Is 2 CD enough to install Gnome desktop, gnucash, and some KDE libraries ( Yeah, I still use few KDE applications )?
unlike other linux distros, gnome does go well, and you wont have problems with gnucash. mandrake have their own flavour of gnome which i do not like though, but there definately are no problems with gnome or kde.
as for their cd's, you can browse the mandrake ftp repository and get an idea, its prolly best to download the 3 cd's.
Mandrake supports and provides updates for both kde and gnome.
I use GNU cash all the time and have never had a problem and i don`t think you will either.
I agree with equinox, you really should download the 3 cd`s because the third one has a lot of USEFUL extra stuff on it
I also think you will like ( and enjoy ) mandrakes ease of use. I am a good test for linux in general i think, because i only started using computers about 8 months ago, and i started by dual booting with mandrake and windows. Now, I only use mandrake, not for any other reason than that i prefer it. I can`t remember the last time i used windows.
But getting back to your question, mandrake does have good support for gnome
